We’re delighted to present ‘Simply Hollywood’, our tribute to the famous faces bringing us the most eagerly awaited films of the year. The legendary Swedish director, Ingmar Bergman, once said: “No art passes our conscience in the way film does, and goes directly to our feelings”. And whether you prefer arthouse cinema, Bollywood musicals, or big box office thrills and adventure, watching movies has the ability to unite us in a common experience as we share the immersive power of film. In this special issue, we focus on some of the biggest stars Hollywood has produced in the past 4 decades, and their eagerly awaited new films. Despite being two of the most prominent actors of the past 25 years, our cover boys, Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio had never worked together until 2019’s Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, a critical and commercial hit that revisits the Hollywood of the 1970s the way only Quentin Tarantino could do it. We have the privilege of being able to share an exclusive interview with the two actors, who discuss the film and their careers, then are joined in the conversation by their talented co- star, the luminous Margot Robbie. We also have an interview with the eclectic and always fascinating Joaquin Phoenix, the latest actor to take on the iconic role of The Joker, giving it his own unique twist. Next – he said he’d be back and he is – the one and only Arnold Schwarzenegger sits down with us to tell us about the highly anticipated Terminator: Dark Fate which reunites himwith Linda Hamilton. Finally, an absolute legend since the late 1970s, the iconic Sylvester Stallone tells us about winning an Oscar, staying resilient in a tough industry, and what made him bring back Rambo in Last Blood. Also in this issue, we’re proud to be featuring an in-depth look at one of the leading names in aviation for the past six decades, Gulfstream. A must-read for anyone with an interest in travel or aviation, this article traces the history of this pioneering company to its iconic status today. On the topic of travel and transportation, Julia Zaltzman brings us details on some exciting new property offerings, including a special feature on New York, as well as updates on the exciting world of yachting. Laura Brown and Kerry Smith report from their respective travels to London, Paris, Scotland, and Thailand, while motor man Damien Reid gives us the lowdown on the Pininfarina Battista, McLaren 600LT Spider, and the Porsche 996. In addition to his always-stellar articles on the latest collectible timepieces in Simply Time, as an added bonus, Nick Rice travels to Switzerland to tour The Institut auf dem Rosenberg, one of the most highly regarded boarding schools in the world, now celebrating its 130th year of educational excellence. Fashion fan Kerry tells us about what’s new on the runway for Autumn/Winter 2019, including Dolce & Gabbana’s latest collection of abaya, and introduces us to the aromatic wonders of locally crafted Lava Candles. And Julia is back to bring us a special feature on Gyunel Couture, the exquisite and exclusive bespoke luxury label. As you can see, it’s a jam-packed edition simply bursting with all the best life has to offer – with an extra helping of Hollywood glamour for good measure. As ever, we at Simply Abu Dhabi truly hope you enjoy this issue as much as we’ve loved creating it for you. All the best, Jordana and all the team at Simply Abu Dhabi x
