Channel your inner-George Clooney seems to be the message from the catwalk, though actually on reflection the mood seems to be more Jude Law’s Dickie Greenleaf from the stylish thriller The Talented Mr. Ripley. The key to this look is getting the right air of casual roll at the bottom of your pant leg for that ‘oh, it just fell that way’ look. The trousers themselves are slim cut and strongly stated in bold tones of electric blue, tangerine, apple green and mustard, created in jersey cotton, silk and suede. Shirts too clearly sport their luxe credentials but in the understated manner of excellent fabrics and tailoring. That’s not to say Gucci has opted for sober and retiring - it is Gucci after all. Scene stealing floral prints were much in evidence as were classic broad stripes. Pullovers continued with the theme of effortless chic, but the punctuation to the look, whether it is day casual or evening three- piece suit, is the ageless Gucci loafer. The design classic has been going strong for 60 years now and Gucci shamelessly celebrated the landmark by putting the shoe centre stage on the catwalk. The moccasins with the iconic clamp are the backdrop to this season’s entire look so don’t even think of stating your style credentials if you still don’t own a pair. Complete your private jet to boardroom vibe with a few pieces of Gucci’s highly desirable accessories. The label’s weekend bags in crocodile and canvas instantly rocketed up Simply Abu Dhabi’s ‘want list’ as did the leather briefcases. We’re in no doubt we’ll be spotting them everywhere from Saadiyat Island to Sardinia this summer.
