2 4 0 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I I was privileged to stay in suite 110, the Hurrem Sultan. This vast suite is named after Hurrem Sultan, who was the wife of Suleyman the Law Maker – the only woman who married an Ottoman Emperor through a marriage ceremony. The interior is dominated by a calming blue colour and the décor is like something from a museum, but in a good way. The huge windows afford a panoramic view over the Bosphorus and the entire space measures 146 square metres. You can enjoy a large living room, a dining area set up for eight guests, a study room, a kitchenette, a guest lavatory and a large bedroom overlooking the river as well as the outdoor pool area. There is no shortage of modern amenities despite the old world charm, and there are three plasma televisions and a music system. The bathroom boasts crafted marble work and has a Jacuzzi and a walk-in shower. You could enjoy a week’s holiday without ever leaving your room. However, if you can drag yourself away from luxuriating in your quarters, you can enjoy all the delights of a Turkish hammam in the 2,400 square metre spa, with a Finnish sauna, Jacuzzi, fitness centre, Pilates and indoor and outdoor swimming pools. Or you can visit the wine cellar and enjoy a movie in the private cinema. Combining both spa and cinema ideas, you could opt for the ‘Pulp Friction’ treatment, and get a ‘Sculpting Massage with fresh grapes’. However you choose to spend your time in the grandeur and glamour of this immaculately restored mansion, it is sure to be a memorable experience.
