Flora Gucci Jewellery’s historic Flora pattern has been reinterpreted in a contemporary style, finding a spectacular new expression in solid silver. The inspiration for this collection lies in an iconic design from the Gucci archives. The story began in Milan in 1966, when Prince Rainier of Monaco brought his wife to the Gucci boutique. Rodolfo Gucci insisted that Princess Grace choose a gift to accompany the bamboo bag she had purchased. The Princess requested a scarf. Rodolfo felt that the House lacked one sufficiently beautiful for the royal style icon and so he commissioned illustrator Vittorio Accornero to create the most beautiful print he could imagine. Accornero returned with his painting: the ‘Flora’, a sumptuous, multi-hued, flowered template destined to become a design classic. The design used by Gucci over the years across scarves, handbags and accessories, bursts with color and depicts beautiful seasonal flowers. Summer 2013 now sees this motif translated into the Gucci Flora line of sterling silver jewellery for women. The Flora collection comprises a ring, pendant necklace, chain bracelet and earrings, adorned with medallion charms. All these pieces feature the original intricate pattern of butterflies and blooms. The ring also includes the Gucci logo. The collection features a special ‘Aureco’ black finishing where each piece is dipped into a gold and ruthenium bath before hand polishing; this treatment is finished by Gucci master craftsmen to lend a black, slightly aged effect to the surface of each item. The long chain necklace and the bracelet, with a thicker silver chain, are both adorned with a floral medallion. Earrings are composed of two circular medallions, and the ring is a broad band decorated with the floral pattern.
