Tinie Tempah, BBCRadio 1 DJ Greg James, actor Harry Treadaway were all seated in the front row. Jake Bugg was maestro on the decks for launch night. Burberry campaignmodels Charlie France, Max Rendell and Alex Dunstan walked the runway. The season – men and women’s – has been all about the Burberry trench coat in its many iterations. About looking at the familiar Burberry lexicon with fresh, youthful eyes. Which is where the collection’s name ‘I heart classics’ springs from. Duffle coats, chesterfield coats, top coats, trenches – naturally – donkey jackets, bomber jackets, utility jackets. The tiger stripe mac, the ponyskinmac (plucky) and the rigid purple rubber version are particular highlights – cheeky, tongue-in-cheek and perfectly teamed with achingly cool shades. The palate was grown-up. All set off with fine hemming details, structured pockets and crisp trims. Classic shades of sand, ivory, Windsor red, regal purple and racing green form the palate. Flashes of leopard print in shoes and accessories added a flash of contemporary inspiration, a quirky contrast. Watch out for the newcomer accessories: the Burberry Boston bag, animal print classic sunglasses and The Britain watch, sure to become classics. The signature tartan has not been abandoned. It appears in linings and trims and on short scarves tucked elegantly around the neck.
