Simply Abu Dhabi XI

Approaching the Rosewood Abu Dhabi, which is literally minutes from the city centre, I was immediately struck by the sleek and graceful architecture, which is clearly evocative of a traditional dhow boat. Stepping out into the light breeze gently dancing across Al Maryah Island, we eagerly headed to the main entrance to see the lobby. As we were taking in this wonderfully calming and sophisticated space we were spotted by Luigi Romaniello, the General Manager. The definition of a warm and welcoming person, Luigi was beaming and obviously took pleasure in making us feel instantly welcome and at home. There’s nothing better than checking into such a prestigious hotel, and being made to feel at ease, rather than uncomfortable with overly formal airs and graces. Soon another friendly face took our bags to the executive suite we would call home for the next two days, and Luigi invited us for a welcome drink. Luigi has been with Rosewood for 13 years and he was brimming with pride at running the latest addition to the portfolio. Obviously in his element managing the hotel, Luigi explained that, “Travellers today are looking for more than a bed and breakfast; they require a destination which offers both a comforting retreat from the day, but also a vibrant energy and variety of amenities. Rosewood Abu Dhabi provides a luxury lifestyle experience currently unmatched in the capital.” Looking around, it’s clear that the hotel is filled with friendly and professional staff and Luigi continues, “Our 300-member team originate from more than 60 countries. They have all undergone extensive training and been immersed in the local culture over the past six months.” The hotel employees are actually referred to by Rosewood as ‘internal guests’ – a telling management policy that can only foster cohesion and a positive environment. What is also striking is how incredibly well dressed everyone is. From the concierge and front of desk staff through to the chambermaids and waiters, everyone cuts a sophisticated look in official uniforms designed by the Italian fashion designer, Domenico Vacca. It’s another example of the refinement and attention 2 3 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I
