For the new season Mulberry is both town and country: influenced by modernist overtones from Sixties London juxtaposed with the opulence of the quintessential English country house and gardens. In its style and attitude the collection embraces both familiarity and modernity, working with classic prints and textures reinterpreted to create new season signatures imbued with Mulberry’s inherent British wit. A palette of serene neutrals and pastels include Cream, White, Ballet Pink and Summer Blue, grounded by stormy contrast colours Grey and Midnight and highlighted with a flash of Fiery Red. The print of the season is an interpretation of a naïve cartoon floral with generous soft petal detailing. Blown up to maxi proportions or shrunken as a tight miniature, this new Mulberry floral is presented on soft silks, jacquard and compact knits and reworked in sequin and beaded raffia. READY TO WEAR A Sixties influence weaves through Ready to Wear, seen in trapeze cuts and structured shift dresses as well as super-luxe silk trousers, cut wide and long and teamed with a short-sleeved silk buttoned top for the retro cool of luxe pyjamas. Twinsets are updated with the seasonal floral worked into a mix of statement textures. A textural finish is also used within bold stripe detailing inspired by linear rural fields, using haircalf or nappa paired with calf leather shown on tops, skirts and coats. The Cropped Heart Lapel Jacket is designed with exaggerated proportions, with a shrunken fit and large lapels, crafted in sumptuous fabrics. Cropped wide leg trousers and shorts evoke the memory of androgynous school uniform, in complete contrast to the feminine Lily corset top. ACCESSORIES The catwalk accessories tell two seasonal stories. The bold stripe theme fromReady to Wear is carried on in the bags, using complementary tonal leather pairings. The Bayswater and Willow Tote are shown in a choice of seasonal shades in the mixed textures of calf leather and haircalf, or calf leather and nubuck. The second story embraces the mirror image, reworking the Willow Clutch and Bayswater into ‘back to back’ styles that are double the fun! The double-sided story continues with the new Kensal collection. The Kensal Shoulder Bag celebrates craft simplicity: a folded piece of exquisite leather stitched, inked and finished with a traditional briefcase lock to form a slim, elegant and versatile shoulder bag worn on a long strap. SHOES Based on sharp clean lines, the Lizzie Platform Sandal is the catwalk heel. The straps give the appearance of bold stripes, with each version in a duet of materials, either mixed leathers or leather paired with floral jacquard.
