2 2 4 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I F or a designer that only emerged in 2008, Victoria Beckham has been something of a surprise talent. Collection after collection has received rapturous reviews; and profits have continued to climb. All eyes are often onMrs Beckham’s frequently front-row famous husband or her brood of angelic children, but to allow yourself to get distracted from the VB wardrobe is to miss out. This season is a new chapter for Victoria Beckham’s label. Simple, signature, bodycon shapes have been relaxed and teamed with more relaxed, billowing accessories. It’s more androgynous, more utilitarian, simplicity belying deceptively constructed items. Concealed vests ensure that dresses fall perfectly. Victoria’s quest for the British answer to effortless, nonchalant Parisian chic continues with great success. Having moved back fromLA to London, traces of Britain have found their way into the new, expanded collection. "We're really growing and this is a big collection – but I like to show a focused collection, it's a reflection of me being in London," she said. Tweeds, plaids and herringbone usually seen more on Jermyn Street have been updated and stylised. Textures are mixed for emphasis. Blocky patchworks create focal points through clever selection of fabrics. Those classic fabrics sit alongside technical gloss materials that show an experimental, playful side. We see laser-cut overlays and newmaterials such as ‘tech poodle’ and compact jersey. Knitwear has been added, a new angle for the designer known for very structured, heavy fabrics. Victoria Beckham
