T he new CH Carolina Herrera handbag collection takes its inspiration fromMarchesa Luisa Casati, the Italian aristocrat and one of the most legendary and artistically represented women in history. An icon and constant source of artistic influence during the first few decades of the 20th century, Casati’s extravagant lifestyle, bold fashion statements, and eccentric personality captivated some of the most influential artists and designers of the era, including Léon Beask, Paul Poiret, Erté and Giovanni Boldini. Considered to be the world’s first female dandy among the European high society, Luisa Casati was the muse for both renowned portraits and innovative collections, satisfying her desire for immortalisation. Casati was quoted stating “I want to be a living work of art.” In the same vein, Carolina Herrera takes inspiration from Marchesa with the new Casati accessory collection. The genuine Denver leather exterior – characterised by its soft texture and flawless appearance – is contrasted by the structured, linen-lined interior which contributes to the modern, clean aesthetic of the Casati collection. The bags are marked by the names Marchesa, Luisa and Stampa hidden on the back of each style, making them unique in design. Each features a golden rectangular closure providing a common visual thread for the three different sizes, and gives a nod toMarchesa and her love for extravagant jewellery. The colour tones inspired by the modernist movement are masterfully combined in this collection which, like the Marchesa herself, is destined to be an inimitable, one-of-a-kind legend.
