Far from the haute drama of other collections, this line presents wonderfully fluid, highly wearable – yet still unmistakeably luxe – clothing. There is something of an athletic feel to the collection, which pairs silk track pants with sheer, sporty tops, and features dresses with mesh panels. Yet the line is very much in keeping with Gucci’s signature sense of luxury and rich materials, from leather-edged kimonos to lurex dresses and silk dressing gown coats. Art-deco prints, inspired by the artist Erté, bring the collection to life in muted but lush shades of plum, gold, emerald, blue and bronze. Erté’s influence is also felt in the large flower prints and scrolling art- deco patterns. Accessories for Spring Summer 2014 complement the colour palette, featuring bright blue, purple or ruby handbags with dramatic tassels. The collection’s relaxed, almost sporty attitude is revealed in its freer silhouette and wearability, but as a no surprise from Gucci, the line is unmistakeably luxurious in its use of materials. T-shirts feature laser-cut suede or tooled leather. Elsewhere, you’ll see the influence of Japanese kimonos in draped jackets and robe coats. These voluminous, flowing outlines are accented by thin wrapped belts or leather trim at the neckline, giving shape and definition to the garments, and providing textural balance and contrast in texture to the diaphanous fabrics. Easy, relaxed, sporty yet always retaining the rich luxuriousness of materials Gucci is known for, the Spring Summer 2014 collection is the perfect way to transition glamorously into the upcoming season.
