1 8 5 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I M etropolitan, neo- minimalist elegance: those are the watchwords for the Max Mara Spring/Summer Collection for 2014. The line is evocative of a legendary New York, that ideal stage for innovation and incomparable style icons, fashion and contemporary art. Thus inspired, the style of the Max Mara woman in Spring/Summer 2014 is defined by the radical sophistication of impeccable monochrome combinations. Coats are in the spotlight, underlining the collection’s sleek personality. And they make for sophisticated combinations in toning shades and textures, for a couture version of the twinset, when alternated with suits and pencil skirts. The capes with hoods are as generous and boxy as cloaks. There are new versions of the masculine jacket, without buttons, light, unlined and as informal as a cardigan. Elsewhere, there are denim garments with luxurious tones, while linen makes a comeback as well. Ultra-light cashmere, cool wool, cotton canvas, linen and the lightest tricot complete the array of materials. Lamé and paper effect fabric treatments create textural interest, a background for pale, neutral shades of pearl beige and pearl grey to flow into the dark and determined tones of cement and coal, hinting at the streets and buildings of a cityscape. Against this backdrop, the collection is further illuminated by the deep, dynamic and electric tones of blue and purple, green and red. Accessories are rigorously coordinated. Sandals in lamé with high stiletto heels in toning resin are featured, as well as the pure geometric lines of the JBag and clutches. Sunglasses with wide, rounded lenses with the thinnest of enamel-coated metal frames complete the look. Ladylike and elegant, this is a dressy collection from head to foot.
