2 2 4 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I GUCCI Ready-to-Wear Spring Summer 2014 M odern fabrics and classic tailoring share the spotlight in the Gucci’s Spring/Summer 2014 Ready–to-Wear Collection. Bold, elegant, yet light and playful – it’s just the right note for summer. Experimenting with high-tech materials and processes has been an interest of creative director Frida Giannini for some time, and in this collection, those modern approaches can be seen in Gucci’s suits and coats. Leather, neoprene rubber, and stretchy jersey – these are no longer materials reserved for sportswear. Indeed, these all these are evident in the Spring/Summer suits and coats from the luxury brand. Crisp, impeccably fitted suits of narrow trousers and two-button jackets are presented in cool slate blue and a neutral tan, perfect shades for summer. These are rendered in an ultra-cool technical jersey fabric, for the man who wishes to remain impossibly elegant and put together, even when the temperatures are soaring. Leather is also a big story for the season, with Gucci offering up a sumptuous three-quarter length open jacket in a neutral creamy caramel and a boxy double-breasted peacoat in pristine white. Elsewhere, a ruggedly elegant hooded anorak in white seamlessly integrates an active silhouette with touches of trench coat styling. All of the jackets are paired with sporty, narrow trousers in light fabrics that are cuffed at the ankle, showing an intriguing balance of weight, texture and volume. At the other end of the spectrum from the neutral palette: a fun, sometimes flamboyant, but always stylish array of floral prints. Once again, the impeccable two-piece tailored suit makes an appearance, this time in a fantastically floral way, and it works – the combination of the brocade-like print with the unmistakably masculine cut of the suit is inspired. Whether sporty, tailored, or dressed for a night on the town, there’s something for every man in the Gucci Spring/Summer Collection.
