The Dolce &Gabbana Alta Moda Collection Pays Tribute to Classical Italian Artistry Infused with love and respect for their heritage, the ultra-luxurious design team of Dolce & Gabbana have always paid homage to Italian art, culture and craftsmanship in their unforgettable couture collections. With this six-part Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda suite of unique jewellery masterpieces, the duo extend their signature style to a jewellery collection that honours centuries of Italian arts and craftsmen who have gone before. Each remarkable piece is a history lesson in miniature, a wearable museum, a loving tribute to the Italian masters. And – in true Dolce & Gabbana fashion – the collection is also a grandly entertaining spectacle. This very large ring depicts a flower composed of a central ‘lagoon’ tourmaline and a series of petals of varying dimensions, each formed by a pavé of diamonds. The perspective thereby created from the dimensions around the flower’s pistil not only generates extraordinary chiaroscuro (or shadow) effects, but accentuates the rich luminosity and unique colour of the central gemstone, which oscillates between green and blue, eluding definition. The exceptional ‘lagoon’ tourmaline is a true rarity, and is also shrouded in a cloak of mystery. Indeed, very little is known about the mine from which it was extracted, only that it is in Nigeria, probably close to a lagoon, thus its name. The precious few raw crystals recovered from the heart of West Africa ended up in the hands of just two cutters before the deposit was mined out, such that today it is all but impossible to imagine finding tourmalines with such extraordinary colour and transparency.
