This ‘collier’, or collar necklace, is characterised by a series of splendid miniatures dating back to the late 19th/early 20th century. The scenes depict some of Venice’s most precious gems: the Piazza San Marco, the Palazzo Ducale, the Riva degli Schiavoni, and the Rialto Bridge. The uniqueness of the these diminutive masterpieces is further enhanced by the preciousness of the materials: pink and white diamonds create a Baroque frame around each image, while ‘South Sea’ pearls connect the individual miniatures like stops along a romantic, imaginary cruise down the Grand Canal. As a final flourish, the sculptural impact of the piece is accentuated by the insertion of small keshi pearls around the images. In a tour de force of priceless history, rare materials, and richness of decoration, Dolce & Gabbana, collaborating with a team of skilled jewellers and gemologists, have created a collection of masterpieces worthy of the classic Italian artists.
