1 5 0 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I Dolce & Gabbana Autumn/Winter 2014-15 ‘Enchanted Sicily’, a mediaeval fairy tale told by Domencio Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, is a staggeringly beautiful, wildly imaginative, impeccably constructed dreamof a collection. Once again, the duo return to their native Sicily for inspiration, but rather than the humble, earthy stories being told in recent collections, this collection is high theatre. The fairy tale references are overt: there are bejewelled princess dresses, floral organza gowns for the fairest maidens, a Sleeping Beauty gown with a golden jacket, glittering silver garments worthy of a knight in shining armour, and a Little Red Riding Hood coat in with an oversized fur hood. Black brocade coats are festooned with silver and gold keys to a secret castle door, and appliqued dresses and capes display creatures from an enchanted forest – foxes, owls, squirrels – all of which strike just the right balance between delightfully cute and ultra-sophisticated.
