With this group, Scott creates a series of new comic characters who adorn these packaging-inspired evening gowns. It’s a witty nod to the intersection between fashion, consumerism, and pop culture – pure Moschino. The SpongeBob character smiles out from tops, handbags and knit dresses. Interestingly, without the cartoon face, the yellow and black-spotted background takes on a new level of sophistication when used in a three-quarter length fur jacket or a sleek, belt-wrapped trench. In calming contrast to the explosion of pop culture colour, there are quilted trousers and short jackets in a serene light blue, paired with gold chain used as a belt and as trim on the jacket. The quilting motif is seen again in an ultra-feminine black skirt and short black dress. Moschino will always be about fun, irreverence and humour, but these sophisticated looks prove Jeremy Scott takes his new role very seriously.
