Drawing from mediaeval imagery and gothic inspirations to present a mixture of the traditional and the contemporary, it challenges and surprises in equal measure. A whirlwind of extravagance, complete with thrones, suits of armour, and regal imagery, sets the backdrop for this supremely royal display. Coronets and gauntlets appear as accessories to oversized garments with faux chainmail headwear and gloves, alongside more traditionally cut suits and elegant overcoats. Footwear is occasionally emblazoned with detailed patterns or a splash of isolated warmth and colour, whilst accessories carry the clever motif cleverly through the range. Muted yet sumptuous colours and intricate, subtle patterns combine stunningly in the Dolce & Gabbana Autumn/Winter collection for 2014. Warm charcoal greys and solid blacks are elevated in juxtaposition with deep, rich, elegant earthy scarlet and shimmering semi- reflective slate blues. Pattern features strongly across the range from bold, full frontal details on square-cut, heavy outerwear to detailed finishes across the full complement of formal footwear. Apparel is cleverly tied in with a well balanced palette and further motifs brought in from the wider collection.
