Simply Abu Dhabi Magazine XVI

There’s a pretty impressive array of standard equipment in this stylish cabin, including climate control, cruise control with a braking function, variable damper control, DAB radio, a heads-up display, tyre pressure monitoring, electrically adjusted and heated front seats, front and rear parking sensors, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, and an 8.8-inch media system display. It’s all what you’d expect plus a little more, and I was particularly drawn to the meter displaying the current level of battery charge. The entertainment and information systems in the i8 are all run by BMW’s latest-generation iDrive system, which these days is so intuitive that you won’t have to refer to the handbook, and the navigation remains best in class for telling you where the traffic may be heavy and the best routes to take. When it comes to the looks of the i8, the pictures on these pages really speak for themselves. It truly is a thing of beauty, which, for me at least, brings together BMW’s past racing heritage and history of innovation with a design that leads the way into the future of hypercar styling in all its hybrid glory. So, is the i8 a car I’d choose to drive on a daily basis? The answer has to be a resounding “yes”. It’s quite simply one of the most exciting cars I’ve tested in some time. The fabulous, futuristic drivetrain and its breathtaking dynamics and design set it apart from the rest, but BMW’s perfect finish to even the smallest details make it a vehicle I’d love to live with.
