Vevers collaborated with Californian artist and animator Gary Baseman to create original drawings for the collection. The result is a series of playful creatures, each developed with a story of the Coach girl in mind, which appear on sweaters, outerwear, T-shirts and bags, adding to the fresh energy and sense of fun displayed throughout the collection. Leopard spot swing coats, fluffy faux-fur jackets, chunky knitwear, and brightly coloured leather bring the funky downtown vibe, whilst the flared trousers last seen in the 1970s are given new life in sleek dimensions. For Vevers, the collection represents an America seen through the eyes of a British expatriate, celebrating a beautiful oddness that’s born of American style, particularly the artistic attitude of New York City. Despite the modern twists, it’s a vision that has always been quintessentially Coach. Spring 2015 also brings a little Swagger your way, with Vevers’ latest bag exploring a new modern elegance. Familiar workwear references and archival Coach elements are remixed with contemporary refinement and streetwise sophistication. The signature Coach turnlock is amped up, elongated and doubled. Oversized binding and Coach’s famous hangtag, now with a delicate, jewellery-like chain, have also been updated for 2015. Along with Coach’s rich pebbled leather, all signal a dressier downtown feel, but still with Coach’s signature timeless style.
