2 0 2 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I Of course, Versace wouldn’t be Versace without lots of leather and cut-outs, and this collection is no exception. Laser-cut tops and dresses, and the punched-out pattern on the leather pieces, bring a lighter, airier feel to the collections. In keeping with the spring/summer season, there’s nothing heavy or weighed-down here. Even the metal accessories Versace favours are muchmore understated: simple silver gusset rings appear at the shoulders or hems of simple shift dress, but the braided chains found in previous collection are seen mainly as prints on the beautifully structured garments. The motif of the Greek key is deconstructed and incorporated into patterns rather than rendered in metal, while Swarovski crystal is the primary source of the customary bling. Elsewhere, there’s black tailored suiting trimmed with oversized white stitching, while long black skirts are cut away at the sides. Sporty knitwear features symmetrical patterns that recall racing stripes, and cropped knit racer vests are worn under tailored pieces. The accessories range, comprising footwear, jewellery and handbags, echoes many of the themes shown in the collection, with a softer palette, laser cut-outs, softer detailing, and Swarovski crystal embellishments. The utility bag, which sports multiple slots and pockets on the outside, is designed to resemble a laser-cut tool board with its compartments for phones, lipsticks, pens – sure to be a must-have accessory for busy women. We particularly love the patent leather basket handbags, offered in seafoam blue and pale pink. Substantial in construction and material, but lighter than air thanks to the punched- out leather and airy colours, they’re the perfect bags for summer. Fresh, modern, and bold, spring/summer 2015 is sure to be stylish thanks to this strong collection from Versace.
