You needn’t be afraid to brake late into a tight turn, then put the power straight back on to accelerate out. Unlike some large, prestige cars, the GT3-R feels in constant touch with the tarmac. If Bentley’s mission in creating this car was to turn a luxury cruiser into a hard-edged performance machine, then it has certainly been accomplished. By trimming the weight and sharpening performance of the Continental all-round, they’ve made what was an already magnificent car into something entirely different: a Bentley that can proudly carry the tradition of those racing cars that went before, bearing the red, green and black labels that differentiated the sporting models from their more civilised brothers. At its sheer size and weight, it’s hard to find a car that competes directly with the GT3-R for like-to-like performance. But Bentley themselves didn’t engage it beating any other marque; they simply concentrated on building the very best Bentley they possibly could. And once again, it’s mission accomplished.
