6 5 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I W hat is it about Italian food that is so comforting? The simple yet high-quality ingredients? The way perfect pasta and flavourful cheeses, brightened by fresh herbs and tomatoes, can warm the heart and satisfy the very soul? Possibly, but we think there’s something else too – the tradition of warm hospitality and friendship which has been the cornerstone of Italian cuisine for centuries. Here in Abu Dhabi we’re very fortunate to have a restaurant that still lives these original values: Cipriani Yas Island. Whilst vibrant, lively and thoroughly modern, Cipriani traces its history back to 1930s Venice and the legendary Harry’s Bar. Kings and queens, Hollywood stars, famous authors and politicians – all were patrons of this cosy yet perfectly realised vision of true Italian hospitality. Located on the first floor of an abandoned rope warehouse off a dead-end street in Piazza SanMarco, the tiny (50 square metres) restaurant seemed an unlikely place to attract such a stellar clientele. But with its careful attention to detail, perfectly proportioned furniture, glasses and cutlery – and of course the legendary service and spirit of welcoming – Harry’s became one of the most famous restaurants in the world by creating a warm, relaxed atmosphere that drew in the world’s most famous clients for many decades. Indeed, the site was named a national landmark in Italy in 2001. Over the years, Cipriani has established a clear and distinct identity and foundation by adhering to four simple values – values that seem desperately needed in today’s fast-paced world: Simplicity: Do the simple things perfectly. Service: To serve is to love. Purity: Use only the finest, purest ingredients. Freedom: The availability of options with no imposition. Cipriani Yas Island continues these traditions, with its own fresh and modern twist. The sublime simplicity of the food; the impeccable yet familial service; and as for freedom of options, you’ll find a surprising and wonderful selection of sushi selections alongside traditional Italian favourites, including baked tagliolini, eggplant alla Parmagiana, fresh burrata, risotto, gnocchi and veal Milanese. Situated beautifully on the Yas Marina, Cipriani welcomes you with a grand, curving staircase. The space features a fabulous wrap-around terrace with stunning views, three private dining areas, a cigar lounge, and state- of-the-art sound systems – all designed to embody timeless luxury. Adding to the high standard of service is the marvellous interior, which evokes the essence of a 1930s ocean liner, all stylishly accented with warmwood and white leather. With its comfortable couches and seats, and even a library, guests are made to feel welcome and at home – and isn’t that the true essence of great Italian hospitality?
