One directs the bird’s rotation, another controls the opening and closing of the beak, flapping of wings, and tail movements, and the third adjusts the note of the whistle, fed by a sapphire tube fitted with a carbon piston, which has been designed not only for its brilliance but also relative light weight and resilience. When activated, the whistle produces three distinct notes of the melody, which is flawlessly amplified to the required volume but has been keenly crafted not to emit unwanted sound caused by the vibrations of the timepiece’s movement. Replicating the song of a bird stands in great contrast to other elite watches, the striking movement of which draw inspiration from stringed instruments and music boxes. The Charming Bird, on the other hand, is conceived on the principles of uplifting and poetic tones of a wind instrument. After spending a short time with the Charming Bird, we were struck with the visceral nature of the timepiece, as it breaks the rather static nature of the breed in a distinguishing and symbolic fashion. Moreover, the Charming Bird isn’t simply exclusive due to its design, technology, or beauty; only 28 examples will ever be produced, making it even more special and an incomparable timepiece to add to any robust collection.
