1 2 1 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I R ed is the colour of the setting summer sun, of strength, and of determination. It is also, however, the colour of speed, challenge, of victory, and of passion. And in the case of TAG Heuer and McLaren, that passion is for motor racing, which runs through the veins of both brands and drives the 30-year relationship shared between the two innovators and influencers. To mark the three-decade-long pairing between TAG Heuer and McLaren, the Swiss watchmaker is releasing a numbered limited edition of the TAG Heuer Formula 1 chronograph… emblazoned in red, of course. The timepiece pays homage to the historic and enviable pairing. To be precise, the colour is called ‘Rocket Red’. The tomato red hue is inspired by McLaren's 1985 campaign. The bright and distinctive shade can be found on the aluminium bezel, which features the tachometer function, engraved with the McLaren name. There are also hints of it on the flange, notably the number 30 on the minute track, a nod to this highly symbolic anniversary. And, finally, it is featured on the Rocket Red and Black NATO strap, which draws the red and black motif out onto the wearer’s wrist. This highly resilient strap lends the piece a resolutely sporty look. It encircles the wrist, ensuring a comfortable fit for all. ‘TAG Heuer’ is hot- stamped underneath the case of the timepiece. The keepers, buckle and pin are made from 316L stainless steel, ensuring robustness. Both the ends of the strap and the buckle holes are laser-cut to ensure a high- quality finish. The quartz chronograph movement is accurate to a tenth of a second, displayed on the small counter at 6 o’clock, with the chronograph minute counter at 9 o’clock and the current seconds counter at 3 o’clock. These three small snailed counters contrast with the opaline black dial, giving an impression of speed as they reflect back the light. The case back pays tribute to the TAG Heuer and McLaren partnership in incredible style: it features a profile view engraving of an MP4 race car from 1985. Truly, this is a timepiece not only for enthusiasts of exclusive watches but also McLaren and the brand’s rich history in Formula 1. More than that, it demonstrates the wearer’s dedication to and appreciation of a racing and watchmaking lineage and the exacting precision that both brands embody at the core of their values.
