Pearls and shellfish lie beneath the sun’s glow on the glittering waves, which Van Cleef & Arpels have taken as inspiration for this next ocean-themed collection. The CoquillageMysteriéux ring takes its inspiration from the curious shellfish, with white, pink and red gold forming the basis of a piece which also features round and troidia-cut diamonds, mystery set rubies and blue and mauve sapphires. The ring inspires a sense of wonder and dreaming; the flamboyant shellfish features in a poetic theatre with treasure at its heart, edged with rows of buff-topped diamonds, while its shells entice curiosity and the curved surface of the rubies attract the gaze with their intense colour. The showstopper of the piece, however, is the ingenious mechanism on the body of the ring which allows the wearer to open the case, revealing a gradient of the blue and mauve sapphires and sparkling diamonds. The long, transformable necklace Kizil, named after the Turkish word for red, is an impressive fusion of white and pink gold with round, square and baguette-cut and pear- shaped diamonds, with white cultured pearl, mother of pearl, rubel drops and 15 square-cut rubellites, totalling 45.9 carats. With the Kizil, Van Cleef & Arpels is providing their buyers with an interpretation of the rich sunset on the ocean. Its rows of pearls are punctuated by the 15 rubellites, each a pinkish purple, in a remarkable match- up that contrasts with the softness of the mother-of-pearl, alongside the jewellery motifs of each diamond cut in an impressive architecture. The fusion of forms and hues endow the piece with relief and vivacity, accentuated by the rubellite drops that adorn the central motif, an Art Deco inspired piece. Thanks to its transformational nature, the piece can be both a short necklace or bracelets of majestic elegance. Lastly there is the Goutte de Spinelle ring, with pink gold, round and baguette-cut diamonds and rubies and one pear shaped spinel of 13.34 carats. The ring captivates the gaze by combining dynamic movement with the setting of intense stones, like the surge of a wave, sparkling rows of diamonds and rubies wrap themselves around the elegant 14.34 carat spinel centrepiece in a striking pear shape. The glittering bubbles highlight the extensive curves and colour of the central stone. Hailing from a family of gems renowned for their vivid brilliance, incredible hardness and extraordinary range of tones, it bears a pink of effervescent luster.
