From the dresses that still form the core of the range, the collectionmoves forward with wrap skirts and crop knits as well as skinny stretch trousers and voluminous peplum tops. Fabrics are played with and re-interpreted in the inimitable Beckham style – leopard print is applied to heavy crepes and blistered silks, checks are applied to angora and bonded with neoprene, gingham is weaved into a cloque, and crystal embroidery is individually shattered and then held together in delicate metallic cases. The colours are vibrant and strong, with shocking pink, electric blue and blood red set against simplistic black and white – all adding to the strong yet still feminine silhouettes. This is statement dressing made easy. Attitude is applied, stripped down and made sophisticated – creating a wearable collection that promises to evolve with the customer. Beckham explained: “Familiar shapes have been deconstructed and reworked. Volumes have been subverted, menswear elements re-engineered to fit the female form and twists, spirals, seams and asymmetry interplayed. Fabrics bounce and move, a swing is sculptural, and a more body conscious silhouette emerges.” She stresses this collection’s focus on the importance of providing stylish, comfortable clothes. “It is not about one theme – but instead thinking about what women really want to wear and how they want their clothes to make them feel.” she said. “For me it is a collection full of possibilities.” It is a style that is quintessentially Beckham, one that has come to be expected of her and her eponymous brand.
