1 9 3 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I F rom the moment they revealed their autumn/winter collection for 2015, it was clear where Dolce &Gabbana drew their inspiration from. It was the power of family, unmistakably, and the support they give us even in our darkest times. Whereas the men’s collection focused on the patriarchal and the masculine, the women’s collection came interlinked with the children’s – and specifically the love we have for our mothers. When the models took to the catwalk in their stunning outfits, they were accompanied, rather unexpectedly, by their children. The children wore clothes that Mr Dolce and Mr Gabbana feel represent the power in the relationship between children and their mothers. A recurring motif here was the rose, an important symbol of motherhood in Italy. Each year mothers receive these beautiful flowers from their children, symbolising the power of unconditional love. There were 11 mums on stage with their children, a number which required a full nursery set-up backstage. On the runway, models walked with their own children, with big smiles to melt even the coldest of hearts. Young girls and boys were the epitome of style, defying their dimples and milk teeth, in a mixture of outfits that ticked every box from stylish black to cheerful rose red. It was fun fashion, without a doubt, and each little boy and girl was a prince and princess respectively.
