Hand-laid patinas bestow tactile quality on the colours, with rich materials such as brushed calfskin, moose, crocodile and fur all finding a place within. An important pillar of the Santoni production process is the dedication to traditional craft methods, such as patina. Master craftsmen employ original tint recipes to apply up to 15 different colours to the leather, in a process that may require many hours of labour. The first colour is applied by hand to the leather and left to be absorbed. This is followed by subsequent applications with a wool cloth, which are always performed slowly and in a vertical direction. It is an almost painfully slow process, but the brand believes it is integral to providing pieces with such impressive quality. Every process is intended to make these products unique, a testament to true Italian manufacturing, a collision of wisdom and respect for the highest quality materials. Santoni continue to refine their processes to meet changing customer expectations with creativity, innovation and research. Their latest collection is proof that this process is not only functional, but effective, and is hopefully a sign of the continued success of this much-loved label.
