I posed some questions to Florrie White, who in her busy schedule was kind enough to answer them for me... How did you get into the fabulous world of makeup artistry? It took me a while although I was fascinated by makeup, beauty and women in photography from a young age. I left school, went to university, travelled, tried out a few other professions and then eventually did amakeup course at the age of 29 at theGlaucaRossi School ofMakeup before becoming Charlotte Tilbury's first assistant for a few years. I haven't looked back. Describe an average day in your life. The beauty of my job is that there is no average day. The only constant is the two heavy suitcases ofmakeup I take everywhere, andhelpful cab drivers. I could be heading to a London studio for a beauty shoot, or going to a hotel to get an actress ready for the red carpet or on location abroad standing on a cliff all day. What is the step thatmostwomen skip fromtheir routine that they should include? I think adding a seruminto your routine is beneficial and the extraminutes you spend applying the product is a real investment in your future skin quality. What three products can you not live without? Smart Serum, Moisture Surge and Robust Rhubarb Chubby Stick for cheeks. What's themost commonmakeupmistake? Unfortunately I do think it is still wearing the wrong shade of foundation, or too much foundation. What is your heromakeup product and why do you think this is? I love skin and I always use a primer over the skincare and before applying foundation as I really like to create beautiful dewy skin and a primer helps me with this. I then use less foundation which really showcases healthy and perfected skin which makes everyone look and feel great. If you could give a woman a piece of makeup advice, what would it be? I think you need to find a balance between following trends and getting stuck in a rut with the same makeup routine from your twenties. Take inspiration from makeup trends, keep your makeup bag up to date with new formulas and textures but always make sure you are wearing a look that best enhances your unique features and lifestyle. How do you ensure a good work/life balance? Luckily I love my job and have worked with a few teams regularly who have now become friends so sometimes it doesn't feel like work. I ground myself from all the travel with yoga and make sure I catch up with friends and family regularly. What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given? Just after I finished assisting I had a shoot doing Sharon Stone's makeup. I was nervous and she could tell. She said to me, "Be brave!" It is always ringing in my ears in my professional and personal life even if it is just using a new product instead of my trusty old favourites. Which product has been the most exciting to launch into the market since you've been involved? The Matte lipsticks were launched at the same time as my position with Clinique was announced so I had an affiliationwith them, but I amvery fickle and now I love the Pop lips! What quickmakeup fixes could awomandowith limited time tohelp enhance her beauty? If you are conscientious with your skincare daily, adding in a regular mask and exfoliation, you will glow so you can spend less time on your foundation. I would recommend filling your brows, curling your lashes and enhancing them with mascara, adding a healthy glow with a Chubby Stick for cheeks (I find Robust Rhubarb works withmost complexions) and then choosing one of the 16 brilliant shades of Pop Lip whether you want a simple nude colour or a dark vampy red. What's coming up fromCliniqueMakeup that we can look forward to? Finally the new Skinny Stick for eyes is coming out. 16 brilliant colours for eyes and so easy to apply with precision. Simple yet effective, that's what I feel when I use Clinique. They continue to impress me more and more. The skincare line is so extensive now all skin types are catered for. I've long been a fan of theMoisture Surge collection – it's like amuch needed drink for your skin. The mask is amazing to apply pre-flight, too. Now looking for slightly more advancement in my lotions and potions, I'm drawn towards the Sculptwear range. With promises to lift and contour our faces, I'musing it regularly and loving the results. It’s super hydrating but with a high-tech infusion. Clinique encourages their clients tomassage it into the skin, which I'm a big advocate of. Giving your skin, muscles, bloodflowand general lymphatic drainage a helping hand is something we should all be doing. You can do it for a minute or even longer, in whatever way you think feels nice. It's such a simple way to wake up the skin and get things moving. Whilst applying a high performing product, even better. There are so many products I could harp on about – the sonic cleansing brush (again, massaging the skin but in this case with a deep cleanse), the SPFs, the body hydrators, the deliciously pungent BeyondRose fragrance and products that surprised us all like theBottom LashMascara. Not tried it?Go get one, you'll wonder why it hadn't been in yourmakeup bag sooner. As you can tell, I'man advocate of Clinique – as I'msuremost of you are too, perhaps without realising it. And if you're not, give it a chance, you'll surprise yourself and thank yourself all at the same time. 2 3 5 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I Clinique Ambassador - FlorrieWhite
