2 4 1 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I Superveloce Before we get to the life-altering experience of driving the Superveloce, I ought to explain its place in the supercar world and its significance for the Lamborghini brand. 2016 Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce is the fourth raging bull ever christened with the SV moniker. Roughly translated, Superveloce means ‘super-fast.’ And, amazingly, that’s an understatement. Transforming the Aventador into the SV, the Lamborghini designers blessed the naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 of the Aventador with a new intake and exhaust system. The result is not only redline increase from 8,350 rpm to 8,500 rpm but peak brake horsepower is now up from 700 to 750 as well. Mated to the more powerful V12 is a faster, lightened 7-speed ISR automated manual gearbox, which now boasts the fastest shifts in the world, capable of shifting in less than 50 milliseconds. Lamborghini engineers didn’t end there, though, as if those changes alone weren’t enough to transform the hardly-ordinary Aventador into the SV. They also added the Lamborghini Dynamic Steering (LDS) system, which adapts steering ratio to road speed. And they also added Magneto Rheological Suspension (MRS) to the Aventador’s pushrod system. The result of all these changes is truly staggering. 0-100 km/h takes just 2.8 seconds on the way to the top speed in excess of 350 km/h. And it’s these numbers that make the Aventador SV the fastest series production Lamborghini… ever. Imposing The Circuit de Catalunya is an imposing place with its storied history and dozens of sharp corners, so to say my nerves were on high alert would be an understatement. Matters were only made worse for my mental state when we pulled up to the circuit to find all 12 Superveloces in the world arranged in a V formation for us in front of the entry. Stepping close to the group of Superveloces, my heart beat even harder, as I studied the lines of the beasts in person. I had of course seen pictures of the SV but not even those could prepare me for the gravity of beholding the latest, greatest raging bull in person.
