9 9 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I A timepiece can say a lot about the owner, from his style, flare, and passions that he holds most dear. Blocky and ornate watches can impart an entirely different impression upon onlookers than a clean, crisp piece with just the essential number of extras. The latter is exactly where the Glashütte Original Senator Cosmopolite lies. If classical elegance, sophistication, and world travel are at the forefront of your obsessions, you’re going to require the Senator Cosmopolite as a part of your discerning collection. It stands as one of the premier watches in the world for elite jet setters with robustness and self-assuredness rarely witnessed in this pinnacle level of exclusive timepieces. This new offering follows in the footsteps of the venerated Grande Cosmopolite Tourbillon of 2012 and adds a new mechanical masterpiece to the wrist of the nonpareil globetrotter. Designed for everyday use, the watch is marvellously visceral and a superb example of intricate engineering that connoisseurs have come to expect from the brand. The Senator Cosmopolite, cased in either brilliant red or white gold and measuring 44 millimetres across, distinctly displays not one but two simultaneous time zones, which makes it ideal for the consummate traveller. It features the new automatic Calibre 89-02 developed in- house by the Saxon manufactory to meet the needs of today’s world wanderers. The wearer simply sets a standard and destination time zone, both of which are exhibited at the 8 o’clock position on the face. This keen feature does away with the need to do mental calculations between time zones but rather puts the inevitable march of time right on your wrist. Highlighting the excitement of travel, the destination time is given the primary dial. Both hour and minute hands – finished in blue steel – point to a black railroad chapter ring framing Roman numerals, which are laser engraved and galvanised in black, highlighting the precise exquisiteness of the timepiece. The standard or home dial, just below 12 o’clock on the main dial, presents a black minute ring and Arabic numerals. Just beneath that, a small seconds dial on a black railroad chapter ring presents seconds. Adding masterly character to the timepiece, a day and night dial, found at 9 o’clock, shows a starry night sky on the lower half and a yellow sun on the upper, complemented at 3 o’clock by the Glashütte Original logo. At 4 o’clock, the Glashütte Original Panorama Date display makes known the date in black Arabic numerals against an ivory background. All of these intricate details are carefully protected under a dome of sapphire crystal that is anti- reflective on both sides. A further reference to the destination time is located at 8 o’clock, where two small windows indicate whether Daylight Saving Time (DST) or Standard Time (STD) is in effect in the destination time zone.
