I was lucky, crazy, I worked like a madman, and still do. I simply try 100 percent to make my jewellery the best it can possibly be,” says Gruosi of those early days. Just two years later in 1995 Gruosi assumed full control of the business and, in what could be described as amake-or-breakmove, hewent against the grain of the industry and embraced black diamonds. Rejected by the jewellery industry and incredibly difficult to cut, Gruosi persevered and in 1996 launched a collectiondedicated to black diamonds. This prescientmovewas a catalyst for a global trend and fascination with black diamonds, which continues to this day. Of course the deGrisogono range encompasses a whole range of gemstones, and the brand has also been creating wristwatches since the turn of the century. Alongside new collections at Baselworld 2016 is the Vortice jewellery collection. Based on intertwining volutes, this line of rings and earrings will envelop thewearer and delicately embellish any elegant outfit. Composed of a spiral or spring-shaped coil, these stunning items embody a sense of dynamism and movement, whilst retaining a sense of decorum. The line is presented in an all gem-set version, with the ring and earrings also available in a variation featuring an original asymmetrical half-setting. As Gruosi concludes, “The heart of our design is where the beauty of each creation takes precedence over any pre-defined boundaries.”
