In 2012 the fashion house courted controversy by using highly glazed, Blackamoor artworks in their jewellery collection. Following criticism by some for romanticising slavery the pair clarified that the vibrant statement earrings were in fact inspired by traditional Moorish ceramics often found in Sicilian homes. In 2016, they’ve played it safer in the fine jewellery collection, but no less Sicilian. Or bold. Four collection lines – Sicily, Primavera, Mamma and Pizzo – are crafted from sparkling precious stones and metals enriched by a precious riot of flowers, butterflies, gems and small crosses. Each has their own unique slant. Primavera – meaning spring in Italian – uses colourful diamonds, brilliant-cut emeralds, teardrop-shaped aquamarines, intense garnets, citrine and amethyst. Together they form whimsical daisies and butterflies adorning yellow gold rings, earrings and pendants.
