There are plenty of pieces to choose a way to wear it; fromher asymmetric dresses in Bordeaux and khaki-coloured picnic checks, to engineered knitted dresses that hug the torso before kicking out into springy skirts, to ultra-roomy culottes, it all hits at midi lengths and longer. This collection boasts a minimalist style but with a wide range of designs. There is an abstract feel to some of the styles, across tops, plaid patterned dresses and colourful skirts. Beckham recently spent time in Africa for charity work and that came through in her sense of vivid colour, which was the bravest we have seen fromher. The white shades are livened by pops of red and cobalt blue suede. A black and white urban surf scene graphic brings the collection back to the smart- sporty theme nicely. “I don’t wear a lot of print,” Beckham said. “So I was excited by working on it. It’s a very liberating collection. We took the print, we disrupted it, we chopped it up. It’s flattering, it’s not overly challenging, so I’m absolutely going to be wearing that.” A charming modern freshness runs throughout: flatform sandals, backless loafers, loafers with squared toe and kitten heel and drapedmidi kilts, vest tops and slip dresses, suede ponchos and flippy culottes – simplicity with a punch. Fluted hems on tops, culottes and skirts add further romantic swishiness to this already easy lineup. The silhouette is loose and the crinkled satin dresses are particularly breezy – like they've been dried in the sun after a day well spent on the beach. Bold plaids, block colours and graphic motifs are the added extras. Her relaxed shapes have a ladylike polish, of course, but come with hibiscus or surf prints, beige and white checks or pops of yellow, fuchsia and cobalt blue. Even Beckham’s usual style of bag gets a dose of California cool in slouchy mini, suede colour block x-body styles or the half-moon holdalls. It’s a collection that delivers American sportswear with a tailored British polish – Beckham bringing the best of both worlds.
