For spring/summer 2016, the traditional qualities of artisanal craftsmanship and up-to-the-minute-design, long associated with Tod’s, still underpin the women’s shoe collection, and yet there is a new spirit at play here – one of spontaneity and fun. It is particularly apparent in the new hyper-decorated Gommino – the shoe style onwhich the house has built its reputation, featuring the rubber ‘pebble’ sole, is nowavailable with striking multi-coloured patches and crystal embellishment. Other decoration includes the new Double-T loafer detail in stainless steel, a fresh hallmark for the house that sits on loafers in slick black or white calf, or purple or red python. Slippers are embroidered with floral motifs, while boots are belted, as are some of the flats, with elegant but sturdy buckles. Throughout, the look is vibrant and excitingly different. Fringing, stripes and a wide range of colours are on offer, alongwith lasered patterns and a variety of leathers, from patent to snakeskin. This is Made in Italy excellence meets modern, urban design resulting in a distinctive look. Finally, Facchinetti struts the collection’s sporty vibe into the footwear viaTod’s range of sneakers. Lightweight, soft and urban, they’re designed to make you feel like you are walking on air. As is to be expected, Tod’s ‘band bags’ are in exactly the right key with the perfect combination of style and craftsmanship. The Wave Bag is the brand’s key style for the season and comes in all sizes frommacro tomicro. As its name suggests, it is soft and shaped like the fluid swell of the sea, an impression reinforced by the curving movement of the zip that opens and closes it. Available in a number of different skins – sharktale, metallic leather, natural vacchetta, crocodile and python– andwith a number of different features from fringing through to Gommino details, the must-have is the one employing macro lozenges in python and multi-coloured leather. Other styles of bag include the Cape Bag, onwhich there is distinctive three- dimensional leather braiding, and the Double-T, which features the house’s new hallmark on its fastening clasp. With this bag there’s a choice between a refined, classic shape or a half moon style somicro it doubles as a belt, or the guitar style with interchangeable shoulder strap. It’s a bag to playwith and personalise. As with the shoes and belts in the spring/summer 2016 collection, the guitar motif recurs on some of the bags, while a plethora of interchangeable shoulder straps continue to evoke the world of the instrument and takes us back to Tod’s band, reminding us of everything that the brand stands for.
