In addition to the signature scarves, the sea of sequinned tops and the suitably dramatic quote from Lawrence of Arabia projected on the back wall (“No Man Needs Nothing”), there was much to admire in this glamorous Arabian Nights style show that saw Versace take her man on a bit of an adventure. For spring/summer, tailoring is stripped of construction yet maintains the iconic Versace strong-shouldered silhouette. The fluid layering of longer mid-thigh or knee-length second skin sweaters and button-up tops with suits or trousers worked with the concept of the collection and also as stand-alone designs. The proportion play emphasised the collection’s sensual fluidity, especially when it was expressed in sinuous tie-dyed knits, which looked sun-bleached. The body is compact, the trousers full and pinstripes disappear as if faded by the sun.
