1 1 1 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I T his year the luxury giant that is Cartier revived a stone-cold classic piece of jewellery, which also happens to be a timepiece: the Panthère de Cartier, an instantly identifiable 1980s icon. Time has marched on far enough from the decade of decadence that we can now look back on it with affection and cherry pick some of the stylistic highlights that the 1980s gave us – and the shiny yellow gold of the Panthère is a perfect choice. The new Panthère de Cartier collection has a range of nine different metals and finishes to suit broad tastes. The panther has been an emblem of Cartier ever since the sensual beast was painted by George Barbier in a watercolour called Woman With A Panther, which was commissioned by Louis Cartier 103 years ago. The Panthère de Cartier watch collection was created in 1983 until it was discontinued roughly two decades later. Now the beast is back and the reception is sure to be a positive one.
