1 4 2 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I Longchamp Womenswear SS17 I t’s clearly been a long winter for the Longchamp creative team, because this season their spring/summer collection bursts onto the scene in a riot of colour and floral blooms just waiting for the city to transform with springtime energy. This was a collection designed for the urban woman, living with elegance and femininity in the city. Inspired by the melting pot of styles bubbling in every great city around the world, the collection is focused around the concept of vivid contrasts; this is achieved by mixing rich colours with delicate shapes, and floral prints with a sportswear spirit. Contrasts and opposites were apparent in every aspect of the collection, nowhere less obviously than in the colour palette where pastels such as palest pink and blue were liberally placed alongside stronger shades such as navy or burgundy. To further emphasis this contrast, as well as thematically drawing the sporting elements of the collection together, black and white piping features on several of the most iconic pieces from the collection to add a graphic, contemporary touch. Much of the collection focused on separates, with skirts and jackets taking centre stage; this increased the wearability of the range considerably, allowing the pieces to be mixed and matched to dramatic effect. The standout piece of the collection was almost certainly the slightly long-line bomber jacket in silk and nylon mesh with striped cuffs and exaggerated black stripes across the body then immediately softened with soft pink floral embroidery. This ‘it’ jacket was immediately added to the must-have list of every fashion editor at the presentation, and it’s sure to sell out fast.
