Simply Abu Dhabi XXVI
Set at 1,660m in Oberlech, the chalet overlooks the dazzling panorama of the Arlberg massif. On a sunny day, gazing at the snow-covered Kriegerhorn, Rüfikopf and Omeshorn peaks glistening against the endless blue skies, it’s easy to see why so many Austrians refuse to ski anywhere else in Europe. The Arlberg region, known as the cradle of Alpine skiing, is where Hannes Schneider, father of modern skiing, pioneered modern techniques almost a hundred years ago. And the skiing – guaranteed to be sublime throughout the season – lives up to the history. With 350km of well-groomed pistes and 200km of high-Alpine, deep-powder snow runs, there are downhill thrills galore; if you’re not an adept skier, Chalet Nwill arrange for private lessons with ski instructor Hannes Schafer, who was born and raised in the neighbouring village Fontanella. The view from Chalet N’s seven suites is a constant reminder of the imposing, magical energy of the mountains surrounding it. Each suite features a bedroom and luxurious living area with a dressing room, while the extraordinary master suite with fireplace and children’s suite with four bunk beds will satisfy the highest expectations. Special materials of the region are tastefully combined with state-of-the-art fixtures and technology, alongside charming, authentic alpine architecture, all beautifully envisaged by interior designer Sebastian Zenker. Bulletproof windows and solid-stone fireplaces meet fur-laden beds and chic photography adorning the reclaimed oak-panelled walls. The bathrooms feature egg-shaped, veined black marble baths set amongst cast-silver stags adorning the walls, profusions of white orchids and endless Bulgari amenities. Post-ski action is catered for by Chalet N’s generous spa and 1,000sqm wellness area. Here, guests can cast off stress and soothe aching muscles in the hay sauna, Finnish sauna or salt-cave steam bath. It also boasts beautiful mosaic tiling, treatments rooms for couples, cold pools, a tailored spa menu, state-of-the-art gym, and a vast array of relaxation areas from water beds to outdoor swing seats, plus two outdoor hot tubs that peer over the white valley. The teamof personal chefs on hand throughout a guest’s stay freshly prepare delicious meals, including local dishes such as fondue, prepared in the authentic Walser Stüberl, Wiener schnitzel, spätzle and blunzn gröstl (blood sausages). A choice of desserts includes caramel tarts with mint and kumquats, toasted-almond sorbet, and a delicate gingerbread mousse and kaiserschmarrn, a traditional Austrian raisin pancake. 1 3 6 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I
