One of the most enduringly impressive watch calibres from the last five decades, the El Primero was originally devised to mark and celebrate the centenary of the Manufacture in 1965. The work on the movement began in 1962 but it wasn’t completed until 1969 – four years past the anniversary date. The reason for the delay? Well, this was to be the first ever automatic chronograph… it takes time to create perfection.
