T here is something special about a family business in a world of corporate giants and multinational brands. For over fifty years Ole LynggaardCopenhagen has created remarkable jewellery, and in doing so the brand unites their large family together across the generations, bestowing responsibility and its due reward on each member. The wholesome nature of such a business cannot help but infuse its creations and Ole Lynggaard jewellery has a sense of magic intrinsic to each piece. This Danish jewellery company was founded by the goldsmith and jewellery designer Ole Lynggaard in 1963, and over the decades, with his immediate and extended family, he has created an acclaimed business with a discerning international following. This year, the grand old man of Scandinavia’s leading luxury brand celebrates sixty years in the golden business. Ole Lynggaard has developed with his trade – and vice versa. Over the past six decades, his designs and the size of the production scale have depended on everything from oil crises and global politics to market trends and trade popularity. The golden family-run business has adjusted to the way of the world, without Mr. Lynggaard ever suffering fromdesigner’s block. He explores life and finds inspiration in art, music, architecture, nature and cultural traditions under foreign skies. “As a designer, I feel inspired all the time. I use my senses and take in as many impressions as I possibly can, no matter where I go: a palette of burned colours in the desert, the scents in the forest on a rainy day, the texture of a piece of metal, the structure of a fabric, the movements of an animal. Even the composition of a lovely meal can inspire me,” he says. Ole’s daughter Charlotte has also amassed some 30 years in the industry and she has inherited her father’s mercurial talent for jewellery design. She is the leading fine jewellery designer and Creative Director of the brand and her passion for her art is unmistakable. “Take a minute to ponder this amazing fact,” she says. “It is actually possible to retrieve a small piece of Mother Nature – precious metal, precious stone, pearl, coral – and to process it, and turn it into an exquisite piece of jewellery. This is somewhat of a miracle that never ceases to fascinate me.” Charlotte’s brother is the CEO Søren Lynggaard. Alongside their spouses, CCO Michel Normann and Retail Manager Hanna Lynggaard, and a dedicated team of 130 employees, they have taken the small jewellery company to new global heights and put Ole Lynggaard on the international map, positioning it as the leading Scandinavian fine jewellery brand that it is today. During Baselworld 2017 the brand displayed some stunning new collections and some incredible special pieces. The Wild Rose tiara is a masterpiece crafted from 18-carat yellow gold and evoking a fairytale aesthetic with soft hues and textures. Light yellow amber, coral, grey and blush moonstone beautifully enhance the sparkle of 136 diamonds set in pavé sprouts and pellets. The one-a-kind bracelet designed by Charlotte Lynggaard drew lots of attention with its curtained rows of delicate 18-carat yellow gold chains, immaculate statement tourmalines, silky-surfaced pearls, twinkling diamond stars and trails of white diamonds – a total of 298 diamonds. Even more diamonds grace the slender Snakes collier necklaces, which display an irresistible plethora of 850 immaculate diamonds. With unique hand-crafted creations in 18-carat gold, embellished with the most precious of stones, Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen continues to bring Danish fine jewellery design to a worldwide audience and to new generations – never compromising on quality, design philosophy or authenticity and staying true to the family values on which the company is built.
