Simply Abu Dhabi XXVI
Zaha Hadid by Brigitte Lacombe D ame Zaha Mohammad Hadid, DBE, was a trailblazer. An Iraqi-born British architect who became affectionately known as the queen of curves thanks to her fluid, gravity-defying designs, she was a woman of firsts. She was the first woman to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2004, and the first woman to receive the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) gold medal in 2016. She was also twice recipient of the UK’s most prestigious architectural award, the RIBA Stirling Prize, in 2010 and 2011. Her death in March 2016 shocked the world and marked the end of an architectural era. However, her legacy lives on, not just in her formidable body of work over the past 30 years, but in future projects by the eponymous, world-renowned firm Zaha Hadid Architects. One such project that overlaps this transitional phase is the stunning One Thousand Museum. The first (and last) residential skyscraper design concept in the western hemisphere by Hadid herself, it sits in the centre of Downtown Miami’s skyline, and it has been pitched as the catalyst that will “shift the centre of gravity for high design and luxury residences”. One Thousand Years of Architecture Bold, original and luxury at its peak, the Miami- based One Thousand Museum by Zaha Hadid Architects is a high-end residential development striking out to rival all others . 2 1 0 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I
