1 0 1 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I T he House of Harry Winston is synonymous with the one and only New York City. This year the iconic American jeweller and watchmaker celebrates the decade in which the company founded in the Big Apple, the roaring 1930s, with the Avenue Collection. The Avenue in question, is of course, Fifth Avenue – one of the most grandiose shopping areas in the world, and fittingly where Harry Winston founded his eponymous luxury business back in 1932 with his impressive flagship store. The famous archways of this signature Harry Winston salon are echoed on the case at 12 and 6 o’clock. This splendid motif in the Avenue Collection watches adds character and class to these four timepieces: the Avenue Classic Cherry Blossom, the Avenue Mini Moon Phase, the Avenue Dual Time and the Avenue Classic Automatic. The collection is inspired by the Art Deco movement and the clean lines and distinctive style evoke timeless architecture such as the Chrysler Building and the imposing Empire State Building. Harry Winston’s flair for design and technical mastery with gem-setting are allied here to make a truly stunning watch family. What is also notable here is the decision to take the utmost quality to the inner workings of the watch, and for the first time these ladies’ watches have a Swiss Automatic movement beating as a heart – a fact which is proudly emblazoned on the dial. The four select timepieces are offered in 18-carat white gold and 18-carat rose gold cases andmounted upon alligator leather straps with a shiny pearl finish. The 18-carat gold ardillon buckle is set with six brilliant-cut diamonds and features an 18-carat gold folding clasp that adapts perfectly to the wrist for both comfort and security. The dial is incredibly alluring in beaded mother-of-pearl with typography that befittingly evokes the 1930s, and which also perfectly compliment the Art Deco sensibilities. The minute track, a common feature across the Avenue timepieces this year, is outlined with 42 diamonds in the shape of an emerald-cut diamond – Mr Winston’s favourite cut – in a knowing nod of acknowledgement. With respect to the precision, style and longevity of the watches, the brand says, “The Swiss-made mechanical automatic movement is equipped with the latest technology in the form of a silicon balance spring. In order to maintain the lean profile of the Avenue case, Harry Winston’s watchmakers came up with an ingenious solution. Instead of making the case thicker to accommodate the mechanical movement, the rotor is allowed to protrude slightly on the caseback, protected by a sapphire crystal glass. Designed to be admired, the 18-carat rose gold rotor is decorated with a guilloché motif and the elegant finishes on the movement – circular Côtes de Genève and circular graining – speak to the attention to detail synonymous with the House of Harry Winston.” Ha r r y Wi n s t o n Av e n u e C l a s s i c Au t oma t i c
