Based in Glashütte near Dresden, Germany, this lauded watchmaker is revered by watch collectors and connoisseurs all over the world. Ferdinand Adolph Lange laid the cornerstone of Saxony’s precision watchmaking industry when he established his manufactory in 1845. His pocket watches remain highly coveted timepieces, although today they are superseded by the most mind-bogglingly exquisite and technically advanced watches in the world. The company has had a tumultuous 172-year history, including being expropriated by the post-war soviet administration in 1948. The company was defunct until, following the collapse of the East German government, it was brought back to life in 1990 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange’s great-grandson, Walter Lange, who recently passed away. Ferdinand Adolph Lange’s eldest son Richard Lange, born in 1845 – the same year the manufactory was established – was the long-tenured technical director of the manufactory, and he focused on evolving precision watchmaking on the basis of scientific research. So, it is befitting that the modern-day Richard Lange collection of watches are ultra-precise timepieces with technical performance being paramount. The Richard Lange Jumping Seconds was first introduced at the 2016 Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie in platinum, and this year sees the model arrive in pink gold. The distinctive dial, which is comprised of an interlinked trio of subdials, is based on a dial design of a pocket watch created by Johann Heinrich Seyffert in the late 18th century. A.
