Simply Abu Dhabi XXVIII
1 0 1 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I The jumping seconds complication, which used to be known as deadbeat seconds, and the largest subdial, is devoted to showcasing the seconds hand. In 60 stages per minute, the blued seconds hand advances along the upper and largest circle of the regulator dial. The cadence is defined by an ingenious one-second constant-force escapement that serves two purposes. Firstly, it delivers the switching impulse for the seconds jump, and secondly, it assures constant power delivery for the entire power reserve of 42 hours. A small aperture window in the intersection of the three time circles indicates when it is time to rewind the watch by becoming red. With the unique combination of a jumping second, a constant-force escapement, a zero-reset mechanism and a prominent regulator dial layout, the Richard Lange Jumping Seconds plays in a league of its own. The watch constant force mechanism, also known as a remontoire d'égalité, is an old and highly esteemed complication that acts as a second power source for the balance, which drives one of the gear train wheels and is itself periodically rewound by the mainspring. The idea is to provide as unvarying energy as possible; the more consistent the energy going to the balance, the better the rate stability should be. The Lange manufacture calibre L094.1 at the heart of this superlative timepiece is manually wound and crafted to the most exacting Lange quality standards, decorated and assembled by hand and precision-adjusted in five positions. The constant-force escapement with remontoir spring is crafted in-house, and the plates and bridges are made of untreated German silver. The tiny balance cock is engraved by hand and the entire piece speaks of sober and restrained perfection. The second version in pink gold is available in a limited 100-watch edition.
