N othing make the Rolex Pearlmaster as iconic as finely-set gems. And the art of jewelling is no exception, and the Oyster Perpetual Pearlmaster, with its broad bezel, is the perfect canvas for Rolex to showcase their supremacy. The date with Cyclops lens and the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, COSC certified, are expected elements. Rolex has its own foundry in the depths of its manufacture, alloying gold using the purest raw materials. By doing everything in-house, quality is carefully maintained and there is no call to reply on any external suppliers. From the casting to the shaping and polishing of the gold, everything is carried out by Rolex with unwavering attention to detail and the utmost quality – which is why Rolex gold watches are universally as good as currency. The Rolex Everose gold is the proprietary pink gold alloy patented by Rolex; its distinctive hue is down to a special composition that preserves the pink colour over time. The mother-of-pearl option offers an interplay of nuances and reflections, and the diamond-paved versions dazzling and yet suavely sophisticated. The characteristically shaped case is crafted from a solid block of 18-carat gold and its fluted case back is hermetically screwed down with a special tool that allows only Rolex watchmakers access to the movement. The winding crown, fitted with the Twinlock double waterproofness system, screws down securely against the case. The crystal, with the instantly recognisable Cyclops lens at 3 o’clock, is made of virtually scratchproof sapphire. The waterproof case provides the Pearlmaster’s high-precision movement with optimal protection. The movement itself is the calibre 2235, 2236 or 3235 depending on the size – 29, 34 and 39mm versions respectively. These are self-winding mechanical movements, entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. Their architecture, manufacturing and innovative features make them singularly precise and reliable. The oscillator at the heart of the watch has a balance wheel with variable inertia regulated extremely precisely with gold Microstella nuts. It is held firmly in place by a height-adjustable traversing bridge enabling very stable positioning to increase shock resistance. Rolex use the innovative Syloxi hairspring in silicon of its own design, and the 3235 calibre also deploys the Chronergy escapement it has patented. Mounted on a gently rounded gold bracelet, with the option of extra gem- paving, the perfect combination can be selected for a watch to last a lifetime and longer.
