R o l e x C o s m o g r a p h D a y t o n a T he Rolex Daytona is one of the most famous and most popular of all Rolex models—a true icon. Since it was created in 1963 it has had all manner of updates and iterations unveiled. Different precious metals, subtle changes in dial architecture… but always the unfailing performance and instant assurance of quality that an icon delivers. This new kaleidoscopic beauty in Rolex’s own 18ct Everose gold, which Rolex make at its manufacture, the emblematic tachymetric scale on the bezel is replaced with the exquisite gem-setting of sapphires in rainbow colours, which are meticulously gradated to match the baguette-cut sapphire hour markers on the dial. The case is also encrusted with 56 brilliant-cut diamonds set into the lugs and crown guard. The chronograph counters are in pink gold crystals, a material with a particular shimmer effect, created during the crystallisation of a pink gold alloy by means of a special process developed by Rolex. The Cosmograph Daytona’s Oyster case is waterproof to a depth of 100 metres and despite looking so glamorous in all its sparkling grandeur, it is if fact spectacularly robust, not that you’d ever want to put it to the test. The middle case has an integral crown guard that is crafted from a solid block of Everose gold and the case back, featuring perfectly symmetrical fine fluting, is hermetically screwed down with a special tool that allows only Rolex watchmakers to access the movement. The winding crown, fitted with the Rolex Triplock triple waterproofness system, screws down securely against the case, along with the chronograph pushers. The crystal is made of virtually scratchproof sapphire. At the heart of this formidable icon is a high-precision movement—the perpetual calibre 4130—a self-winding mechanical chronograph developed and manufactured by Rolex, which incorporates a chronograph function, albeit with a reduced number of components for enhanced reliability. The robust chronograph is engaged by a mechanism with a column wheel and vertical clutch, providing an instant and extremely precise start. The movement also includes Rolex’s famous blue Parachrom, made in an exclusive paramagnetic alloy. The calibre 4130 is equipped with a self-winding module via a Perpetual rotor and offers a power reserve of approximately 72 hours. This latest version of the Cosmograph Daytona is fitted on a solid-link Oyster bracelet in 18ct Everose gold with ceramic inserts and an Oysterlock safety clasp to prevent accidental opening. The bracelet includes the Easylink rapid extension system, patented by Rolex in 1996, which allows the wearer to easily increase the bracelet length by approximately 5mm for additional comfort.
