1 9 0 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I T he Senator Excellence Perpetual Calendar is a stunning evolution from the older Senator Perpetual Calendar, but with an incredibly impressive updated movement at the heart of the watch—the calibre 36-02. What is most striking this year is the move away from traditional refined stylings for something much bolder and contemporary, with an impactful open-worked edition limited edition of this powerful perpetual calendar watch. The calibre 36-02 automatic movement contains a whopping 100 hours of power reserve as well as a silicon hairspring and it’s an important pleasure to be able to admire the mechanics through the sapphire caseback. Until now the Senator Excellence collection was only available in steel or 18ct red gold but here we have for the first time the refinement of here 18ct white gold. The dial is partially skeletonised and the fine guilloché base plate—handcrafted at Glashütte Original’s own dial manufactory in Pforzheim—makes the most prominent impression. This partially opened mainplate gives an inviting glimpse of the interplay of the calendar discs. The watch includes date, day, month, moonphase, and leap year indication, and don’t worry if you prefer to avoid adjusting the settings—the watch won't require any correction until the year 2100. As any watch connoisseur will expect from a brand as esteemed as Glashütte Original, the finishing on the Senator Excellence Perpetual Calendar is of the highest possible standard, with a Glashütte three-quarter plate with stripe finish, bevelled edges, polished steel parts with perlage and a skeletonised rotor with a 21ct gold oscillation weight. Normally this watch family has a very traditional and conservative feel, but this is a modern and contemporary iteration—a triumph of a Limited Edition. The blue accents on the hands and the blue minute markers create a dashing touch combined with the silver and grey colours used all around and the watch looks perfectly matched with the blue alligator strap.
