1 9 4 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I U ndoubtedly one of the most talked about watches at Baselworld 2018, the Tudor Black Bay GMT bears a strikingly similar resemblance to an incredibly popular watch made by its big sister company, Rolex. The GMT-Master II, or affectionately known by legions of Rolex watch lovers as the “Pepsi” thanks to the red and blue colours of the bezel. Not that there’s a problemwith the similarity, why should there be? The Tudor Black Bay simply is a more affordable timepiece and it packs a substantial punch for its price tag. Let’s not forget, the origins of Tudor date back to 1926, when ‘The Tudor’ was first registered as a brand on behalf of the founder of Rolex, Hans Wilsdorf. He created the Montres TUDOR SA Company in 1946 to offer watches with the quality and dependability of a Rolex, at a more accessible price point. Tudor describes the twin-tone bezel as “burgundy and blue” and as the much-loved Black Bay collection gets a GMT—or multiple time zone— function. it also gets a new manufacture movement, the in-house automatic calibre MT 5652. This impressive new movement is COSC Certified with a 70-hour power reserve and a variable-inertia balance wheel (with a non- magnetic silicon balance spring). A stop-seconds also allows for precise time setting. TudorBlackBayGMT
