2 0 8 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I ETRO T he Italian fashion brand Etro was founded in 1968 by Gerolamo Etro, and this year celebrates its 50th anniversary: 50 years of fashion, travel, love and colour. In a swiftly changing world and in working in a capricious fashion scene, Etro has kept to its roots; a family business with the creative drive being Kean and Veronica Etro—Gerolamo’s children. Etro is a brand that is vibrant and boasts a nomadic sense of travel. This season, for the spring/summer 2018 collection, both the men’s and women’s collection were presented together during Milan’s spring Fashion Week in September, which was entitled “Tree of Life”. Both Veronica and Kean orchestrated a show that presented a contemporary vision of Indian folklore as seen through Etro’s bohemian and nomadic spirit. The Leitmotiv of the show was paisley, Etro’s logo, which was introduced in 1981 by Gerolamo. Paisley as a design has ancient roots and comes from Punjab, India, and represents the mango fruit. Only centuries later did paisley become a spiritual symbol representing freedom.
